“Ok here it is… my honest opinion after using the Turbostream defector plates – my first worry…

Can I fit enough lump under the plates for a 9-10 hour brisket cook. Answer is yes. I removed the KA basket and filled it up 50:50 RO and Fogo and a couple wood chunks-after 10 hours the fan was running at 0% and temp was sitting perfect at 250. I removed the brisket to wrap it in butcher paper and while I had it off I peeked under the plates. It was fine but I threw in a couple chunks for the last two hours or the cook for good measure.

My opinion- great product- heavy gauge steel and fits like a glove. (On my grill, prob not OJ’s)

The small raised charcoal basket works awesome also – kinda makes a large into a mini, perfect for a couple steaks or burgers. Ok here it is… my honest opinion after using the Turbostream defector plates – my first worry…

BGE with TurboStream Method

My friend Charles Roberts makes a BGE accessory called TurboStream that offers two specially designed stainless plates that cover the fire/lump to create an amazingly even heat circulating through the BGE. It’s called the AirFlow Diffuser Plates.  There’s a ring that goes down between the fire ring and the the firebox to hold these plates (and other accessories) and once the fire is going you use the ash tool to lock these plates into position. I’m a baker and I’ve really enjoyed this accessory that really makes a nice baking oven of the BGE. Check them out atwww.turbostream.net when you get a chance.

Rather than using the PlateSetter to hold the pizza stone we use the grill grate that came with the BGE.   The even heat from the TurboStream eliminates the need for the spacer Tees as well.   Here’s another look at how to cook:

Here is the TurboStream AirFlow Diffuser Plates in place after the lump has been going a while. They just slip into the Component Ring that is a part of the TS System. Do take a look at them online.

Only my Eggbead Brethren will truly appreciate this one.

Cooking for our church lunch – 54 pounds of Butts on our Medium and Large!  Large is loaded with 6 butts on two homemade racks – Turbostream deflector allows for the extra space.  Butts are just kissing each other and cooking nicely. Time for some sleep.

Hi,

I received your product today!  I was hesitant to purchase the Elevated Grate as there was not much info about it on the forums.  I am glad I did. I was very impressed with the quality of the product.  This is a solid piece of steel.  The craftsmanship is outstanding.  It was simple to install and worked perfectly.  I was so impressed I wrote up a review on the Egghead forum. In fact, I’m still so impressed I told a person I work with and sent them the info today. Not often I find a new product and go “AHA”! I will be purchasing the rest of your line once I get a few extra dollars!

“I got this new product that makes it a snap for cooking small amounts. That’s the way I like it!
The TurboStream is a stainless steel bin for charcoal that sits up at fire ring level and leaves part of the grid for indirect heat.

I put a thick steak on the indirect side and put the lid down.
When it was 115° IT, I took the grid off and put it on the ash-covered coals. I got the great char that I love!
I’m very pleased with this new accessory. It saves time, saves charcoal, and it’s just what I needed”.
